Choosing a gynecologist: what to confirm before booking
Start with the reason for your visit. A routine appointment, a pelvic-floor concern and a consultation for a gynecologic cancer may require different expertise.

Build a shortlist
ACOG suggests asking your usual clinician for recommendations and checking your insurer’s and hospital’s physician directories. A name on a directory is a starting point for contacting the office.
Check the service you need
Ask whether the physician treats your specific concern and age group, and whether a referral is needed. A combined OB/GYN registry label does not tell you which services the physician offers today.
Make the appointment practical
Confirm the address, new-patient availability, language or interpreter arrangements and your exact insurance plan. Ask what records to send and how to contact the office after the visit.
Use this directory carefully
Read each profile’s sources and dates. Registry information and independently confirmed details should be distinguished. A missing detail is a question to ask, not evidence that a physician lacks that qualification.
